This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (published on April 15) follows:
With LG still struggling to roll out Android 10 update to its devices at a time when Google has already started working on the next version of Android, it goes to show how slow the company is at rolling out OS updates.
However, the fact that its latest Android 10 roadmap places some devices in Q4 2020 shows the length the company is willing to go to ensure eligible devices end up receiving the promised update, no matter how late. We saw it with the LG V20 Android Pie update late last year.
This explains why LG’s Android 10 update story isn’t as impressive 7+ months later, with the LG G8 ThinQ and V50 ThinQ first to the update in November 2019 and January 2020, respectively. Granted, the wait for LG Android 11 update (LG UX 10) may go all the way up to Q4 2020.
List of devices eligible for LG Android 11 update
While flagship devices in the G and V series are usually guaranteed two OS upgrades, other LG handsets may easily end up with a single OS upgrade. But since this list isn’t official, there is always room for error (and updates).
That said, below is a list of LG phones that we think will receive the LG Android 11 update (LG UX 10) when the time comes.
– LG V60 ThinQ
– LG V50 ThinQ
– LG V50S ThinQ
– LG G8X ThinQ
– LG G8S ThinQ
– LG G8 ThinQ
– LG Q51
– LG K61
– LG K51S
– LG K41S
Apart from the V and G series devices, the others listed above come pre-installed with Android 10. This means they are guaranteed at least one major OS upgrade to Android 11, although not officially confirmed.
LG UX 10 release date
Two years ago, LG fans thought the company was moving in the right direction following the launch of the Global Software Upgrade Center meant to provide timely software updates to more LG devices.
But despite this initiative, the company still is one of the slowest OEMs when it comes to rolling out not only major Android OS upgrades but also minor security patches to its devices.
By the look of things, there won’t be any major changes to this reputation, meaning the likes of LG V60 ThinQ may be first to the update but in Q4 2020 or thereabout. In the event that details of the LG Android 11 update become official, though, we will update this post accordingly.
