[Updated] LG Android One X5 (LG G7 One) Android 11 update begins rolling out

New developments indicate that LG has started rolling out the Android 11 update for the LG Android One X5 in Japan. The update was previously expected to be released on March 31.

The device is identical to the LG G7 One sold globally on the hardware front, however, the difference between the Android versions pre-installed on the devices are what separate the two.

LG released the LG G7 One with Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed but for some reason, the company decided to launch the LG Android One X5 with Android 9 Pie pre-installed.

Therefore, considering that Android One devices are subject to two major OS updates, the LG Android One X5 was eligible for the update to Android 11.

This new update is rolling out with the build number RKQ1.201123.002 to LG Android One X5 units purchased from the Y! Mobile carrier in the country.

The software version is X5LG30a and it also brings the February security patch to the device.

Again, considering that the LG Android One X5, as the name implies, is part of the Android One program, it’s not much of a surprise that it has bagged the new Android 11 update ahead of newer models from the company.

While we haven’t managed to get our hands on a detailed changelog for the update, it’s likely that most features introduced with Android 11 are present and accounted for.

That being said, the global LG G7 One may not get the update to Android 11 since the device has already picked up two major OS updates — Android 9 and Android 10.

The company also recently began seeding the new Android version to the LG V60 ThinQ in the U.S. and to the LG Velvet in Korea.

It’s likely that the remaining devices that are eligible for the update to Android 11 will get it in the following months.
