OxygenOS 11 made a lot of headlines when it launched earlier in the year owing to its drastic design departure from its predecessor, OxygenOS 10.
Gone was the stock Android inspiration that had characterized many previous OxygenOS iterations and in came a new skin that looked a lot like Samsung’s One UI.
At the time of writing, OnePlus 8 series of devices run the stable release of this skin while the OnePlus 8T launched with it out of the box and these are the only ones running this OnePlus Android 11 skin.
There have been one too many issues with this skin, many attributing these bugs and issues to the drastic design change. We have looked at many of these OxygenOS 11 issues here.
That said, it is clear that for the most part, OxygenOS 11 is a new skin that is still evolving and coming into its own.
We’ve recently seen reports suggesting features that might come to OxygenOS 11 in future updates. These include, but are not limited to customizable battery charging, separate volume control for apps, dual media playback, among other features.
As the year draws to a close, OnePlus saw it fit to take the opportunity to recap some of the features that it is working on with regards to its current OxygenOS 11, features it plucked from the Open Ear Forums.
In the publication, we effectively get a glimpse of some of the features that devices eligible for an update to Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 could get at some point down the line via OTA updates.
First up is the camera department. See, OnePlus devices have come with decent cameras. Maybe not iPhone or Google-Pixel kind of cameras but still, nothing to sneeze at.
To further improve the camera performance, OnePlus is reportedly looking to improve certain aspects as follows.
– Optimize inconsistency between lens and AWB – Continuously working on it
– Fix HDR portrait halo – Done (Need to upgrade to HDR4.0)
– Display the tripod icon when using a tripod – Done (In Nightscape mode, the tripod mode is turned on manually)
– Smart capture when shooting kids – Already under closed beta testing.
Perhaps most notable is that OnePlus is looking to bring smart capture for taking photos of kids to OxygenOS 11 devices. This feature is reportedly already in testing so users might want to look forward to an update to their OnePlus devices soon.
In the audio department, OnePlus is working on a few features, some that include noise reduction for its Buds Z earbuds.
– More options for sound tweaking – already offer better physical noise reduction in OnePlus Buds Z and will keep optimizing
– Active noise reduction – under internal evaluation
OnePlus devices are some of the most decked out internally and the lightweight OxygenOS skin ensures users can take full advantage of the specs.
For this reason, OnePlus devices have been a favorite for users in the market for capable gaming devices that won’t break the bank. OnePlus has, in turn, built a bunch of gamer-centered features into OxygenOS.
The company is looking to further improve and enhance the gaming experience on OxygenOS 11 with the following features.
– Add additional IM apps to quick reply gaming tool feature
– Work to bring high-refresh-rate and haptic feedback to other community-favorite games
– Bring FPS rate and other stats to Game Space while gaming
The company adds that it also plans to bring enhancements to Privacy Matters, Community, and OS design. At the time of writing, OnePlus says that the feedback from users is still under internal investigation and users will be notified on upcoming features soon.
It is refreshing to see an OEM come out to listen to its customers and implement user-generated requests into its firmware. We can only hope that other OEMs borrow a leaf from OnePlus.
