[VoWiFi confirmed] After Honor Play EMUI 10 (Android 10) update dismissal device served February security patch, still no VoWiFi

At this point, most eligible devices have already been updated to Android 10 by their respective phonemakers. Eligibility has generally been flagship and mid-range devices from the past two years or so.

However, some devices, despite being launched within the past two years, have been struck out of the update-list to Android 10. One such device is the Honor Play.

The Honor Play was launched back in 2018, running Android 8.1 and has since been updated to Android 9 Pie where it currently stands. Calls by users to the Chinese phone maker to have the company roll out EMUI 10 that is based on Android 10 have been less than fruitful.

We have seen thousands of users signing petitions on Change.org to have Huawei oblige, but those have also hit a snag. Efforts to have Huawei allow these users to unlock their bootloader have also been fruitless.

The best that Huawei could do for Honor Play users was to promise them regular updates and security patches moving forward. And true to the company’s word, users have started receiving an update with the February 2020 security patch.

The update brings the software version running on this device to version 9.1.0.365, still based on EMUI 9 and Android 9 Pie. To the disappointment of many, the device still doesn’t support VoWiFi, even with this update.

For many, this update is a lot more useful than the INR 500 ($7) Amazon voucher by the company that was being offered to disappointed Honor Play users.

It is still disappointing that the device, despite being less than 2 years old, it is still locked out of Android 10. Huawei has been a constant culprit in this, most likely due to limitations in the Hisilicon chipset that powers most of their devices.
