New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on January 13, 2020) follows:Google Photos is arguably one of the most underrated Google apps. The photo-sharing app commands a user base of over 1 billion across all platforms, but we all know Android is where the majority is.
Unless you just came back from the wilderness, you’ve almost certainly heard the good things some of the people around you have had to say about Google Photos.
One of the best features of the app is the effortless backing-up of your photo library for free, but there’s more, including the ability to identify people in your photos, automatically creating movies and GIFs from your photos, among others.
Even so, the Photos app has also had a share of its own issues over time. We’ve in the past documented issues related to brightness, the app’s icon on Chromecast icon, the app not working on smart displays, old photos going out of order, and so on.
Apparently, multiple Google Photos users on various Android phones are now reporting that the app is facing yet another issue, this time related to saving video edits.
While most of the reports suggested that affected Google Photos users were using Samsung Galaxy devices that have been upgraded to One UI 2.0 based on Android 10, it seems the issue is more widespread than thought, including devices from other vendors as well.
Matter of fact, the issue has also been reported before by Google Pixel users who took part in the early Android Q beta program. Although this may suggest the issue is Android 10-related, someone using a Pocophone F1 and another on Honor V10 say they are also having the same issue.
I wanna use the video stabilization but I can’t save changes. I open the video, edit, click on stabilize, after processing I can watch the stabilized video. But when it comes to saving, it just crashes. I click on Save, the video is immediately shut, and it states Impossible to save Changes. I am using a Honor V10. Anyone having the same issue?

While Google has yet to determine the root of the issue, someone already managed to link the saving edits issue to the High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard, otherwise known as H.265. As it stands, the Photos app doesn’t support video coding in H.265 standard.
In order to address this issue, one must disable the H.265/HEVC option in the camera settings, which is pretty much not the ideal solution, but it should work for now. It also means that you’ll have to make do with the inferior H.264 video coding standard.
In Camera settings I did set to record videos in the more efficient H265 format, so I thought maybe that was the reason. I switched back to H264 mode and videos recorded it that format I as able to trim and save successfully. So I guess the Photos app doesn’t support editing H265 video.

It’s unclear when Google intends to address this issue, but since its software-related, a fix should be included in a future update to the app. We will let you know when this rollout begins.
