When Xiaomi brought in the Pocophone F1 or the Poco F1 (in India) back in August 2018, it changed the entire smartphone market as it offered flagship-level specs for the price of a mid-ranger.
Yes, the device did not offer everything of ultra-high quality, yet it was successful in changing the perception of the smartphone users as they could get flagship-level specs for a low price. To recall, under the hood it was powered by the-then latest Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6/8 GB of RAM, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 6.18-inch display.
In the camera department, it sports a dual-camera setup with a 12 MP primary lens and in the front, it houses a 20 MP selfie shooter. The Pocofone F1 also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
After the success of Poco F1, smartphone enthusiasts were eagerly waiting for the next generation Pocophone. It has been nearly one and a half year and yet there were no signs of the Pocophone 2, until recently.
As we reported a few days back, a trademark application was filed in China which is expected to be of the Poco F2.
This, of course, got the Poco F2 hopefuls excited thinking Poco F1’s successor is likely on the cards.
And now, as per an official tweet by the Global VP of Xiaomi and MD of Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain, Poco has been declared as an independent brand.
Excited to share: #POCO will now be an independent brand!
What started as a sub-brand within Xiaomi, has grown into its own identity. POCO F1 was an incredibly popular phone. We feel the time is right to let POCO operate on its own.
Join me in wishing
@IndiaPOCO
all the best.
Following that, Xiaomi Indonesia’s GM, Alvin Tse also joined in and congratulated Poco India.
Here we go!
Congrats
@IndiaPOCO
. It’s time to excite the tech and smartphone scene in 2020 ?
So does this finally convey that Poco F2 is coming? Well, for quick recall, back in 2019, Alvin Tse confirmed that the brand is working on a new phone that will be unveiled in 2020.
Not to miss, when there came the rumors about Poco’s discontinuation, Xiaomi India Head of Marketing Anuj Sharma also stated that Poco will continue to make smartphones, hinting that Poco F2 will eventually come out.
They stated:
POCO was made to remain independent. POCO uses Xiaomi’s services like logistics, support etc. POCO has its own product strategy. Right now POCO is too small & their focus is still on POCO F1.
And cut to now, Poco is a separate brand. Rumors also suggest that the Poco F2 could be a rebranded Redmi K30 for India. However, we cannot confirm anything until something concrete pops-up. Let us know your thoughts on this development and whether you are excited about the Poco F2 or not.
