Nokia 6.1 Plus Android 10 arrives with December security patch, Dark mode, gesture navigation & smart reply

After the Nokia 8.1, Nokia 9 PureView and Nokia 7.1, HMD Global is now rolling out the stable Nokia 6.1 Plus Android 10 update across the globe.

In an official roadmap revealed in August 2019, the Finnish company had confirmed that the Nokia 6.1 Plus would receive Android 10 anywhere between Q4 2019 and Q1 2020.

Although the device’s internal Android 10 beta build leaked back in October 2019, chances of the stable version rolling out back then were quite slim. This is especially since the stable Android 10 hadn’t even hit the Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 9 PureView.

But today, the wait is over. The company has announced that the stable Android 10 update is now available to download on the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

The update is arriving over the air as version V4.10C and weighs in at 1302.7MB, so be sure to connect to a strong Wi-Fi network to download the file.

Below is a summary of what the update brings to the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

1. Dark mode – Take it easy on your eyes.
2. Smart reply – Save more time with recommended replies.
3. Gesture navigation – Get around with a swipe and a pull.
4. Additional controls for privacy and location.
5. Google Security patch (2019-12).

Apparently, the same update also removes the face unlock feature from the Nokia 6.1 Plus, something Nokia says is Google’s doing.

Not long ago, the Moto One Vision started receiving the stable Android 10 update. Being the Android One device it is, the update included the latest January 2020 security patch.

You would expect the same for the Nokia 6.1 Plus – an Android One device like the Moto One Vision. However, HMD went with the older December security patch.

This was also the case with the stable Android 10 updates for the Nokia 8.1, Nokia 9 PureView and even the Nokia 7.1, all of which received their OS updates bundled with older security patches.

Going by the roadmap provided by the company, next in line are the Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 7 Plus and later this quarter the Nokia 4.2, Nokia 3.2, Nokia 3.1 Plus and Nokia 2.2 will join the party.
