Google is planning to introduce cumulative patch to address the update delay

If you love vanilla Android experience and want to receive the latest security or firmware updates then, Google’s Pixel phones are the ones you should opt for.

Though OEMs like Samsung, OnePlus, and Nokia have tried to break this barrier a few times back in 2019 by pushing out updates even before Google, there is still a long gap to fill in order to overcome the Android giant.

But what might come as a surprise to all (myself included) that Google has failed to deliver the December 2019 system update to many of the Pixel phone owners thus far.

Google also had similar update-delay issues with the November patch as well. Not only this, but we have also reported that the January 2020 update for Google Pixel series is slated to roll out this coming Monday.

Moreover, the December 2019 update was expected to come out as the first quarterly “Pixel feature drop” update. For naive, via “Feature Drops” Google plans to push out regular software updates along with major new features for its Pixel devices.

And going by the official Google blog post, in this new update, you will find app-specific improvements like portrait blur in Google Photos, automatically screen unknown callers, improved video calls on Duo, Live caption for Pixel 3 and 3a users and more.

However, according to a tweet by the official twitter handle of Google, when asked about the delay in December update, Google responded that they are planning a cumulative January and December security update for all the Pixel devices.

Moreover, keeping in mind the features and capabilities that the new Pixel Feature Drop brings in exclusively for the Pixel devices, users are bound to get excited to receive the update quickly on their devices.

And considering that the December 2019 system update was part of the Pixel feature drop, delays in the update can cause a negative impact on this new initiative taken by Google.

But, if we go by the latest response from Google, a joint January and December update will hit the Pixel units in the near future. We will keep you in the loop once we have more information in this regard.
