Around a month ago, Samsung surprised everyone by releasing the December patch long before Google. The Korean OEM continues to do the same, as January 2020 patch is already available for Galaxy S9 via beta channel.

Although not that much advanced, Huawei also pushed the regular monthly security update for a bunch of devices – both flagships and mid-rangers included. The OEM is now rolling out the December patch for Honor View 20. This phone is also sold as Honor V20 in China.

Talking about the update, this OTA brings up the version number of the software running on this device to 9.1.0.258 and weighs in at a rather modest 170 MB. However, there is a catch.

It is worth noting that this update is being rolled out to Honor View 20 devices that are still running Android Pie-based EMUI 9.1. Interestingly, stable build of Android 10/EMUI went live for this phone back in November. This OTA is not for them as it is still based on older Android version.

Honor 20 and 20 Pro also received the EMUI 10 update alongside View 20, but we are unable to locate similar December patch updates for the former duo.

As far as we can tell, the Android 10 rollout for Honor View 20 is gradual. This is why some View 20 owners are still running Pie based EMUI 9.1. If you are among this group, keep checking the updater app on your phone and you should be getting the Android 10 update really soon.

The affordable flagship from Honor has been rather well updated in the past. Other than the staged rollout of Android 10-based EMUI 10, the device also got the October patch (9.1.0.251) in the previous month.

Honor View 20 was unveiled back in December last year. The phone sports a 6.4-inch IPS LCD display and impressive internals like Kirin 980 SoC to match.
