Samsung has really cleaned up its act in the past few years. For a long time, Samsung was used as a joke by iOS fanboys and Android purists alike. This was because of just how cluttered and messy Samsung’s skin, Touchwiz, was. The skin was heavy and sluggish and rarely got updated.

But with Grace UI and now One UI, the OEM is turning over a new leaf. Samsung devices are some of the best-updated devices in the industry today. They get monthly Android security patches in a timely manner as well as major version upgrades.

Samsung’s race against Google is still going on, as the company is now delivering the December Android security patch update for a couple of phones, such as Galaxy A50! Yes, we are still living inside November.

Neither Google nor Samsung has released details of the December 2019 security patch update but the rather modest Galaxy A50 has beat them all to the update. The mid-ranger becomes the first device to receive the December Android patch update.

The update which is only available in Israel at this moment bumps up the software version to ASKA. The update is dated November 20 and should be hitting supported devices any time now.

The official Samsung software tracker for the particular model (SM-A505F) is yet to be updated to reflect this update. However, unofficial Samsung software trackers already have this build listed.

The A50 has been rather well updated in the past. It is worth noting that the phone did receive the November security patch with additional fingerprint related improvemnts.

Galaxy Note 8

Surprise! Also getting the December Android security patch is the Exynos variant of the Galaxy Note 8. The update has been spotted in various regional variants including Panama and Italy ones.

The OTA in Panama comes with the build number DSK5 while the Italian version is getting the DSK1 build.

As this is just the initial roll out, it might take a few days before this update hits your device, or becomes available in your region.

To manually trigger the update, if it is available for your device, launch the Settings app on your Galaxy A50 or Note 8, go to Software update and tap Download and install to try and trigger the update process manually.

Galaxy A50, along with its siblings, the A20, A30 and the bigger A60 and A70 are really popular devices in many markets. The Galaxy A-series took over from the now-discontinued Galaxy J-series. These represent Samsung’s offings in the entry to the mid-range segment of the market.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 8 might not receive Android 10 update at all – at least the official roadmap doesn’t contain any reference of it.
