We’re coming towards the end of December and many of the mainstream devices, especially those from top OEMs, have already been updated with the December security patch. The list includes popular flagships like Samsung Galaxy Note series as well as relatively older Realme phones.
Huawei, despite having hundreds of different models in their portfolio, is really trying to do a good job at pushing updates. This also extends to its sub-brand, Honor. Keeping with that trend, a few more Honor devices are getting updated to the December security patch.
Honor Play
Thanks to the EMUI 10 drama, Honor Play is a rather controversial device at this moment. The December security patch update for this device, which is still based on Android Pie, bumps the software version to 9.1.0.358.
The incremental OTA weighs in at a rather modest 250 MB and spots the generic changelog from usual monthly security patch updates:
This update improves system security with Android security patches.
In the recent past, Honor Play users in India received a video calling enhancement update. Dubbed as MEETime feature, it allows you to make HD video calls with beauty effects over Wi-Fi and cellular data.
Honor 9N
Sold as Honor 9i in certain markets, Honor 9N was first unveiled back in July 2018. The phone is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset. Originally launched with Android Oreo, Honor 9N received Pie-based EMUI 9.1 a few months ago.
Like Honor Play, the phone might not get Android 10 at all. However, yet another security update on Pie is ready for the phone in India.
As you can see, this 217 MB update introduces the December patch and brings the software version on the Honor 9N to 9.1.0.131. I must say, a relatively minor jump from the October patch (build 9.1.0.119).
