A couple of years back, LG used to be a formidable contender in the smartphone industry. While the company is still in the ring, Chinese players like Huawei and Xiaomi have taken over many markets since then, leaving Samsung and Apple as the only other players.
That is not to say that LG is not pushing out devices, far from it actually. The Korean OEM boasts of some really compelling offers in the market today.
Unfortunately, delivering timely software updates is not LG’s forte. They recently stole the limelight by releasing the stable Android 10 update for LG G7 One. Guess the actual credit should go to the Android One program. But what about LG’s own flagships?
The Verizon variant of the camera-centric LG V50 ThinQ is getting the December security patch update. PiunikaWeb readers should remember that a leaked beta of Android 10 for this phone is floating around the interweb.
According to Verizon’s own software tracker for this device, this is the fifth software update to be rolled out. Apart from introducing a new security patch, the internal system version of this device has been bumped to V450VM10i.
Talking about monthly security patches, the Sprint Variant of LG G7 ThinQ is also getting a new update – November patch to be precise.
The OTA bumps the software version running of this phone to G710P19a. Weighing in at around 232 MB, this update brings the monthly patch update and little else.
Looking for Android 10? For the owners of LG G7 ThinQ, it is worth holding onto hope.
In two separate tweets from LG India’s official Twitter handle, the company has confirmed that the LG G7 ThinQ is slated to receive the Android 10 update in Q1 of 2020.
It is refreshing to see ‘obscure’ phone makers like LG strive to push out these security updates to their devices, even those that are relatively old at this point. We can only hope that this update situation continues to improve, and close in the gap between iOS and Android in that regard.
