Long before the boom of Chinese Android OEMs, two telecom giants from the land of the dragons were known for creating unique smartphones. In fact, Huawei and ZTE, the two companies used to be the ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) of several US carrier phones and tablets.

Lately, Huawei became a household name in various non-Asian market segments, including the US. The in-house Kirin platform, extensive focus on camera department as well as the competitive pricing are some of the deciding factors behind Huawei’s growth over ZTE.

Moreover, the US ban on the latter was a significant blow. Huawei faced a similar detention a few days ago, but the issues have been allegedly resolved between the two parties. The ban on ZTE was lifted at the end of 2018, but they already lost the lion’s share in the west.

Now that the restrictions are over, the Chinese OEM is dedicating their full force to recover the brand value. Forget Samsung Galaxy Fold, as ZTE pioneered in the folding phone genre since 2017 (Axon M anyone?).

They are also preparing several 5G phones, namely Axon 10 Pro 5G and (rumored) Nubia X 5G.

The Nubia subbrand of ZTE is reserved for the flagship and enthusiastic lineup – such as the Nubia Red Magic series of gaming phones. As a matter of fact, ZTE executives teased the upcoming Nubia flagship of 2019 numerous times by posting photo samples, such as the total solar eclipse of Chile on July 2.

Now Nubia Z20 aka the successor to last year’s flagship Nubia Z18 has just got the official release date! The company has announced the launch event via their official Weibo profile. The ceremony will take place at Beijing on August 8.
