Xiaomi may have a vast (and sometimes perplexing) portfolio of phones, but their individual lineups grow their own base of followers with time. For example, the Mi Max series nicely bridge the gap between phablets and budget friendly mid-rangers.
The third generation Mi Max was launched back in July 2018 in a fewer number of markets compared to its predecessors. The fans are speculating for the upcoming Mi Max 4 for quite a long time, but there is no official word from the Chinese OEM as of yet.
Nonetheless, the company does not forget to provide regular software updates to the Mi Max 3. Originally released with Android 8.1 Oreo, the phablet was upgraded to Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10.2 OTA.
The first Pie build brought February security patch for the device. Subsequent March patches came with MIUI 10.3.1.0 build, which also bundled a number of software enhancements like persistent lockscreen.
Xiaomi decided to skip April patches entirely and rolled out May security patch in MIUI 10.3.2.0 update. This particular build reached to a limited number of random users at the end of May.
The incremental update of 448 MB contained various fixes and optimizations. The persistent lock screen feature got further enhancements as well.
After two weeks or so, this particular update is certified to be stable . MIUI 10.3.2.0 for Mi Max 3 is now being widely rolled out, as the company has uploaded both the fastboot and recovery flashable packages in their update servers.
- Device: Mi Max 3
- Codename: nitrogen
- Channel: Global Stable
- Version: V10.3.2.0.PEDMIXM
- Android: 9.0
Thanks to yshalsager and the Xiaomi Firmware Updater project for making it easier to track these OTA update.
On the other hand, the April update for the European Mi 9 SE also arrives via MIUI 10.2.9.0. The convoluted update strategy of Xiaomi is making the situation a mess, as the Chinese Mi 9 SE is already on 10.3 branch. The global models are running MIUI 10.2.2.0 as latest build but with older security patch.
The download links are as follows:
- Device: Mi 9 SE
- Codename: grus
- Channel: Global (EU) Stable
- Version: V10.2.9.0.PFBEUXM
- Android: 9.0
Don’t try to cross-flash the update on non-EU Mi 9 SE units, as Xiaomi reportedly hardened the device checking routine which might lead to brick.
