New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on January 20, 2020) follows:
Xiaomi has this unwanted history of rolling out major Android OS upgrades to its Android One devices with plenty of bugs. Those who have used the Mi A1 and Mi A2 and picked up major OS upgrades will attest to this.
Matter of fact, the recent Mi A2 Android 10 update has been going through this very cycle. The initial OTA was spotted last week and hardly had the rollout been felt by the Mi A2 community than Xiaomi took it down for unknown reasons.
The issues have since been addressed, so it seems, as the device is now receiving a newer Android 10 build with the latest January 2020 security patch. The initial version arrived with an older December 2019 patch.
Speaking of January security update, this is what owners of the Mi A3 are now receiving. But unlike the Mi A2, the newer model is still getting a Pie-based update with nothing more than security improvements and the usual stability improvements.
By rolling out the Mi A3 January security update based on Android Pie, Xiaomi basically confirms that Android 10 won’t be released this month. Of course, this excludes those who have reportedly been selected to take part in the closed beta program in India.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise for PiunikaWeb readers, though. Last week, we told you about Xiaomi India’s position on this matter, where support noted that the rollout is not expected until mid-February 2020.
Perhaps it’s only a couple or so weeks away before the Mi A3 Android 10 update arrives. Xiaomi better make the wait worth it by ensuring it’s a bug-free update.
