This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (from Feb 12) follows:
Xiaomi smartphones sold in China have slightly different software customized for the local market. Although most things remain unchanged when the devices cross borders, some are removed and others added to the software that ships inside non-Chinese models.
This addition and negation of features usually requires a little more time, which is the reason Chinese variants of Xiaomi devices receive software updates ahead of their global counterparts.
The Mi 8 Pro Android 10 update, for instance, first arrived on the Chinese variant during the second weekend of the year.
The global variant had to wait a few more days to get the update – days that developers used to add and remove certain things from the Chinese ROM in order to make it a global ROM.
When the global firmware arrived, though, Xiaomi had limited it to a few Mi 8 Pro units for precautionary purposes. This way, the company has a few units to deal with in case anything goes wrong with the initial software update.
Close to a month down the line and after the extended Chinese New Year holiday, it seems the company is now rolling out the stable Mi 8 Pro Android 10 update to more people.
A Redditor has shared a screengrab of the new Android 10 update, claiming that it came out today. The Mi 8 Pro user seems to be a UK (Europe) resident, which essentially means this should be the much-awaited wider rollout.
The firmware version is unchanged from the initial rollout from last month and so is the changelog, meaning you are still stuck on December 2019 security patch. But at least you get Android 10 while at it, which should be a welcome idea for most people.
If interested, you may grab the new Android 10 firmware for the Mi 8 Pro from here and install it manually.
