Verizon Galaxy Note 9/S9 & T-Mobile Galaxy S9 December security update rolls out

At this point, maybe a Samsung Galaxy phone is what you need if you care about timely monthly security updates. Over the recent past, the Korean company has been leading the way, even beating Google to releasing the patches on a couple or so occassions.

The Galaxy A50 and Galaxy Note 8, for instance, picked up the December security update days before November came to an end. The Galaxy S10 series, on the other hand, got the nod as part of the stable Android 10 rollout that also kicked off late last month.

The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 9 also got their December security updates on the final day of November, just before Google started rolling out the same update to its Pixel phones.

While U.S. variants of Samsung Galaxy phones usually lag behind their European counterparts, things have been quite different with the latest December security update. Even before the Google Pixel 4 got the nod, the U.S. unlocked Galaxy Note 10 and S10 devices had already received the update.

Today, owners of the Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ on Verizon Wireless are also receiving this very update with December security patches. Where the Note 9’s OTA is arriving as build CSK1, the S9 and S9+ are getting it as build CSK5.

Also receiving the December security update are the Galaxy S9 and S9+ units on T-Mobile. The Magenta carrier is rolling out the update to both handsets as build number CSK3 and weighs in at about 176MB.

These updates are airborne, meaning some Note 9 and S9 owners on both carriers will have to wait for a few days or maybe even a week before they get the download notification.

Not long ago, both the Galaxy Note 9 and S9 handsets picked up their first One UI 2.0 beta updates in the U.S., but unlike the Galaxy S10 series, there is no room for carrier variants to take part in the program.

Apparently, the Snapdragon variants of the Note 9 and S9 family should begin receiving the stable Android 10 somewhere in March 2020. If anything, that’s roughly when you can expect your Verizon or T-Mobile Galaxy Note 9/S9 to get updated to the stable One UI 2.0.
