Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 July security update arrives

Android 10 is the current talk of the town, but this is one discussion Samsung device owners aren’t keen to enjoy, really. If you own a Samsung phone, even if it’s the latest Galaxy Note 10 or the Galaxy S10 from earlier this year, Android 10 won’t be coming your way anytime soon.

Sure, we know that Samsung is already working on Android 10 updates for the Galaxy S10 series. In fact, T-Mobile is already testing the new OS on the Galaxy Note 10 and Samsung has also started making some apps ready for the OS, although some are still lagging behind.

But we all know Samsung’s strength has never been timely software updates. Sure, they do arrive, but it can take weeks or even months for these updates to arrive, be it monthly security patches or major OS updates.

For instance, it’s only a few days ago that Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 users started receiving the July security update in India. This update arrived at the end of August and a few days later, this same update is now rolling out in the U.S.

Verizon owners of the Galaxy Tab S4 can now download and install the July security update that is arriving as version T837VVRU2BSH2. It’s an OTA update and with the changelog having just been published, you may have to wait for a few days before it arrives on your slate.

What’s changing:

The current software update gives you the most up to date Android security patches on your device.

The update is based on Android 9 Pie and in fact, it’s the second OTA update for the Galaxy Tab S4 since switching to Pie. And yes, the Tab S4 should also receive an update to Android 10, but it could arrive in Q2 2020 or thereabout.

Interestingly, the Galaxy Tab S4 is receiving July security updates at a time when the Galaxy Note 10 is receiving the latest September security patches. It’s quite unusual coming from Samsung, but to be fair, the Korean company has recently been doing a great job with security updates.

Also, the story is arguably true when it comes to Android OS updates. Although notoriously late, Samsung eventually delivers at least two Android OS updates to most of its devices.

In a recent report by Counterpoint Research, Samsung ranked second behind Nokia when it comes to OEMs that actually care to upgrade their devices with new Android OS and security updates on time.
