The only way to improve the performance of a smartphone after it has been released is through regular software updates. This, however, has always been Android’s biggest problem, but things have been improving steadily.
Apart from Google, no other Android vendor guarantees three years of OS updates and monthly security updates. OnePlus delivered three OS upgrades to OnePlus 3/3T and Android 10 update will make it three for OnePlus 5/5T, however, monthly security patches are still elusive.
Thanks to Android One, HMD Global licensee is also doing such a great job with software updates. The Finnish company is among the few non-Google device vendors that actually take regular security updates seriously, be it for the high-end Nokia 9 PureView or the low-end Nokia 2 and Nokia 1.
As of this writing, for instance, the Nokia 2 V is receiving a new security update. Sold through Verizon Wireless, the new update installs the latest September 2019 security patch on the 2 V as version 00WW_1_13D, up from version 00WW_1_13C.
Did you notice the release date of the new Nokia 2 V software update in the screengrab above? Yea, scratch that! It’s definitely an error from Verizon’s side and it should be fixed pretty soon. What really matters is what the update brings.
Speaking of which, the changelog only mentions the updated Android security patch and nothing more. But you can almost be certain that bug fixes and performance improvements are part of the update.
What’s changing:
The current software update provides performance improvements and the most up to date Android security patches on your device.
It’s interesting to see a new Nokia 2 V software update arriving in less than two weeks since the previous one was rolled out. The update that brought August security patch to the device arrived a little over one week ago.
The Nokia 2 V is a Verizon-exclusive variant of the Nokia 2.1 that came out last August pre-installed with Android 8.1 Oreo. The device has since been upgraded to Android 9 Pie, with the 2V joining the party in July 2019.
Looking at the official Nokia Android 10 update roadmap, the Nokia 2.1 is scheduled to receive the new OS in Q2 2020. If anything, that is when you can expect your Nokia 2 V to receive this same update unless Verizon has other ideas.
As for the incoming September security patch, it may take a few days before every Nokia 2 V user gets the OTA download notification, so be sure to wait patiently. Alternatively, this might be the right time to start bothering the software update button in the settings menu.
