Foldable phones have been touted to be the future of smartphones. Already we have seen a few interesting implementations of the concept, most notable one being the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Others like Xiaomi, Huawei, and LG have been reported to be working on this.

Towards end of 2019 the world was introduced to the new Motorola Razr. A device that seemingly ‘learned’ from all the foldable phones that came before it to deliver one of the ‘safest’ and more refined implementation of the new concept we have seen yet.

The new Motorola Razr is finally available for users to pre-order in the U.S. The pre-orders can be made on Verizon’s online store and the price tag starts from a rather reasonable $1,500 (Reasonable compared to other foldable). There is also an option to purchase the device in 24-month installments of $62.49 each.

Even before the device can hit shelves and people’s pockets, Verizon is already rolling out an update to the device.

This update contains the December 2019 security patch update and brings the software version running on this device to PDV29.266-47. It is unclear what else this update fixes as the changelog is a little vague at best.

Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to help optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.

As this update comes even before the device is launched, chances are that this update will come immediately after the first boot. However, in the off chance that it doesn’t, users can go to Settings > System > About phone to check the software version. To check for updates, go to Settings > Software Update > Check for a new system update.

Before the device goes on sale, some lucky folks have been able to get their hands on these units. One device was torn down by the folks over at PBK Reviews on YouTube.

The teardown reveals the guts of this foldable device, showing the level of engineering that went into making this piece. A few things to point out include the fact that this device packs two battery cells.

The first cell is located on the lower half of the phone. This cell holds a rather small 1165mAh of juice. The second battery cell is rated at 1185mAh. Combined, both these cells add up to 2350mAh of battery capacity for the Moto Razr.

Also impressive about the guts of this device is the display. Motorola managed to incorporate an impressive slim flexible display on this device. I mean, look at this thing.

The entire PBK Review video is 15 minutes long but it is worth it for anyone that is into appreciating such level of craftmanship.

Initial reports indicated that the Razr would be available in Verizon stores February 6, however, Verizon’s website suggests it will begin shipping only by February 14. Reports also indicate that the device is also on pre-order in the UK.
