LG G8 ThinQ getting October security update on Verizon amidst Android 10 talks

The hand gesture system, which has been housed under the Google Pixel 4 device, is not the first implementation of it. LG took a bold step beforehand and introduced this with the LG G8 ThinQ.

Though the device packed in some good features but failed to make an impression among the smartphone users. The device also fell off under the radar due to irregular software updates.

However, in a recent development, Verizon has pushed in the October 2019 security update for the LG G8 ThinQ. Previously, major Canadian carriers (Fido and Rogers) have already delivered the October patchset a month ago.

Moreover, the LG G8 ThinQ has been testing the Android 10 update for quite a while now and is expected to get the stable Android 10 update in the coming weeks, at least in Korea.

To recall, the LG G8 ThinQ packs in Snapdragon 855, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal storage, 3,500 mAh battery, 6.1-inch P-OLED panel, and dual rear camera setup.

Now coming back to the update, this new Verizon update for the device arrives with the software version G820UM10h and carries October 1, 2019 security patch level.

What’s changing:

The current software update gives you the most up to date Android security patches on your device.

Notably, this is system update 4 from Verizon for the LG G8 ThinQ and is purely incremental in nature. It only bumps the security patch level to October 2019 (sadly!).

Moreover, this update was also confirmed by one of the users of the G8 ThinQ on the XDA forums. You can check out the screenshot below:

In fact, the update is being pushed via OTA in batches and will take some time in hitting all the devices. However, you can head to Settings>>About Phone>>Software Updates>>Check for update>>Download now for manual checking.

LG went under testing the Android 10 update for LG G8 ThinQ in Korea but there is still no information regarding its global rollout. LG will bring in some new UI changes that include menu tabs, pop-ups at the bottom of the screen, and a card type menu.
