Verizon LG G7 ThinQ August security update rolls out

LG doesn’t need an introduction. Unless you are not living under a rock, the name does ring a bell. That being said, the brand’s smartphone division is going through a crisis. The 21.3 percent drop in 2019 second quarter sales reveals the same thing.

If you closely follows gadget industry, you know Sony also shares the same destiny when it comes to smartphones. As the reason for both these turnarounds, the pointer directs to the Chinese manufacturers that took the market by storm.

We can’t say the company is doing their best to fight their competition. It seems like they are not pushing to achieve desirable sales figures. Still, we see quite a few LG phones in the market every year.

The OEM launched G8 ThinQ this year in February with flagship specifications. Nonetheless, the handset couldn’t bring enough sales to revive the company. What did possibly go wrong?

Hefty price tag! That’s one major aspect most of the customers turn back from LG. In a market where similar features are available under $500 (Asus ZenFone 6Z, Redmi K20 Pro, etc.), not everybody is willing to pay $850+ for an LG phone.

You know the brand has budget devices. Are they worth it? An end-user always opts for better specs to price ratio, which LG smartphones lack. And, there are many other exceeding choices available today. It’s high time the OEM improved their devices.

Let’s have a look at the company’s flagship of 2018. Packing in a Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with up to 6 GB of RAM, G7 ThinQ flaunts almost all the features a user wants in a high-end offering. However, it is not getting flagship level treatment in terms of OTAs.

They rolled out Android 9.0 (Pie) update last month only. By the time it happened, almost all other OEMs had delivered the same to their flagships. July security overhaul went live in August (weird for a leading model).

Guess what’s new now? Yeah, it’s August update (after seven days into September)!! The package doesn’t contain anything new. You are simply getting upgraded to the August patch. But there’s a catch to it. As of now, the OTA notifications showed up on Verizon-branded units only.

You will have to wait for the universal rollout. Over the air updates go live in batches. And, that’s why the delay. You can check our LG section to get yourself notified.
