Verizon Galaxy S10, Note 10 (5G) gets October patch, fingerprint scanner update rolling out separately

Samsung is not known for speedy rollout of security and firmware updates. Matter of fact, it is a known fact that monthly security updates usually arrive on any Samsung device deep at the month-end.

But people have become aware of the importance of the monthly security updates and it has become one of the criteria for going ahead with any OEMs. Moreover, the latest security patch is the October update that fixes a lot of vulnerabilities for Android devices.

On the other hand, Samsung is facing backlash from users as well from the tech fraternity over the “fingerprint-gate” controversy. For those who do not know the “fingerprint-gate” is related to the security of the scanner as the fingerprint scanners on the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 reportedly can be easily fooled with the help of aftermarket screen protectors.

The impact became more severe when banks also started blacklisting Galaxy S10 for its insecure fingerprint scanner. However, there were no loose ends from the company’s side as they were quick to acknowledge this issue and started pushing emergency hotfix update to address the bug.

And now in a recent development, Verizon has pushed the latest October 2019 security update for Galaxy S10 and Note 10 5G while the fingerprint scanner update is being rolled out separately.

Let us take a look at the updates one by one.

Galaxy S10

The update for the Verizon variant of the Galaxy S10 is bringing in quite a few goodies along with the October security patch. Camera enhancements, new camera features, dynamic lock screen, Samsung DeX for PC, etc are some of the new features.

Below is the screenshot of the update along with the official changelog:

What’s new:

• Camera enhancements such as Live Focus, AR Doodle, Night Mode and Super Steady
• Dynamic lock screen
• Link to Windows feature allows access to photos, messages and notifications on your PC
• Samsung DeX for PC

But according to one of the user, the update also brings in other changes mentioned below:

Here’s the changes;

• Front Camera Night Mode
• Rear camera night mode on all 3 cameras now
• Live focus now has a new Bokeh mode that looks a lot like the iPhone’s portrait mode
• Super Steady video is now available on the main and wide angle cameras and you can switch between them while recording.
• Live focus video mode (!) on front and rear cameras
• Hyperlapse on front camera (love this!)

However, the official tracker for the Samsung Galaxy S10 is not yet updated and you can check out for yourself:

Galaxy Note 10/Note 10+

Notably, Galaxy Note 10/10+ is also receiving the latest security update. However, the official tracker is not yet updated yet and it still shows the security patch level of September 2019.

According to users, the update is available for the Note 10/10+ devices. Moreover, the update is just incremental in nature and brings in the October security patch.

Galaxy Note 10+ 5G

Also, the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G is also receiving the latest October patch update. Moreover, Verizon seems a bit lazy, as they not yet updated the tracker for Galaxy Note 10+ 5G as well.

Notably, T-Mobile variants of the Galaxy Note 10 lineup have already received the October patch update Below is the screenshot of the Verizon OTA and the official changes that it brings for the device:

System Update 2

The system update improves the security of your Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G and includes other enhancements.

Not only Verizon has updated the Galaxy Note 10 Plus with the latest security update but, it has also pushed in the fingerprint fix update as well.

The update is bringing in the fix for the fingerprint scanner fiasco the Samsung has been facing flak in the recent past. Moreover, the update is 7.1 MB in size.

This is not the first time that Samsung has pushed the fix for fingerprint related issues. Very recently, the company pushed the biometrics update for international Galaxy S10 and Note 10 units as well.
