Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 8 August security update rolls out

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ started selling in major markets across the globe a few days ago and by next week, a lot more people will be able to purchase one of these beasts.

The Note 10, for those who seem to have forgotten, is the second successor to the 2017 Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Yea, these two are now a couple of years apart and naturally, it means the aging model is approaching the end of life as far as software support is concerned.

This might be true for sure, but at least not now. As I write this, the Galaxy Note 8 has the same Android OS version installed like the newer Galaxy Note 10 and Note 9 – Android 9 Pie. Unfortunately, the Note 8 won’t get past Pie, which was its second (and last) major OS upgrade.

Of course, the newer Galaxy Note 10 has a few more tricks up its sleeve, but some may find their way to the Note 8 via software updates if history is anything to go by. Until then, those on Verizon Wireless can make do with a new software update to keep things refreshed.

The Big Red is rolling out the latest Android security patch for the month of August 2019. This is the latest version available, which is pretty great for a 2-year-old Samsung device sold through a carrier.

We all know how carrier-branded devices can be slow when it comes to receiving software updates, but Verizon has been doing a great job, especially with Samsung devices.

This isn’t to say other carriers are not doing their best. Last week, the same August security patch was pushed to the Galaxy Note 9 sold through T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint, which, again, is quite impressive from the parties involved.

For those who own Verizon’s Galaxy Note 8, watch out for a software update with version PPR1.180610.011.N950USQU6DSH3. We haven’t received actual reports of the OTA rollout, but Verizon has already updated its software support page to reflect the new changes.

Do keep in mind that OTA updates are staggered, so you may have to wait for several days before you receive the download notification.
