Officially, Samsung’s Gear S3 smartwatch is capable of displaying texts, emails, and alerts, so that the user can take a quick look at them without reaching the phone. But for quite some time, it’s being reported that this feature is broken, especially when it comes to text messages.
The problem dates back to April, when complaints started pouring on the official Samsung Community that Gear S3 Frontier wasn’t notifying for new incoming text messages. Users said while the messaging app on their phone clearly shows the notifications, the watch somehow fails to do that.
It’s worth mentioning that those affected also pointed that the Message app doesn’t show up under ‘Manage Notifications’ in Samsung Gear App’s Settings.
If you take a look at the forum thread in question, you’ll see that a lot of users have been facing this problem, with most of them being Galaxy S8/S8+ or Note8 owners.
One of the users even shared that the Support staff told them that Gear S3 and Galaxy S8 aren’t compatible and the company intends to soon push an update to fix this.
Finally, as a user recently revealed that the problem is fixed for them. They pointed out that the option to enable notifications for the Message app is now there in the Settings menu, adding that it’s disabled by default, so you need to enable it first.
One of the Samsung moderators also said that the issue seems to be fixed. He suggested those still facing the issue should make sure everything is updated. Here’s what they exactly said this morning:
Looks like this is fixed for some people but not others? Make sure everything is updated and then make sure notifications are all turned on
