Google Pixel phones finally get the promised Time-Lapse camera mode feature

During this year’s developer conference, Google announced that Time-Lapse camera mode will be making way to Google Pixel phones sometime soon. The OEM revealed their plan to push the same to older Google Pixel 3, 2/2XL phones in the coming days.

Living up to their words, today the company has announced that Time-Lapse is now available on all Pixel devices running Google Camera version 6.2.030.

Time-Lapse, as you may know, is a an interesting recording technique which compresses longer time into shorter sequences. Meaning, capturing longer segments and playing them back quickly. This camera feature already comes in the mid-ranger Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL devices out of the box.

To record time-lapse videos, all users have to do is open the Camera app> Tap on More> Look for Time-Lapse (which sits along with other camera mode options like Night Sight and Slow Motion)> Choose the speed at which you’d like to capture the footage and then start recording.

Before you get confused about which speed to select among 5x, 10x, 30x and 120x, the company says, 5x is suitable for recording shorter recordings, like kids playing, however, 120x is good to go for longer recordings, like shooting a sunset.

Not only that, for more creative and dramatic effects, it’ll be possible to change the recording speed right while shooting. To make it possible to capture smooth handheld recordings, Time-lapse comes along with video stabilization. So you don’t need to worry about shaky videos.

Also while recording, you’ll get to see the recording time as well as the expected output time so that you can stop recording at a point of your preference. Coming to battery performance while recording, the phone’s display will automatically dim after a minute of no activity to save battery while recording.
