Google is getting ready to release the stable version of Android 10. It’s expected that the OS will be outed early next week, with the Google Pixels and perhaps the Essential Phone expected to get it first.

It has also been reported that OnePlus could be in line to join the party on this very day, but we can’t be sure until we see it happening. You know, customer support is most of the time clueless about the software development process.

Still, it would be nice to see another non-Google OEM pushing for the release of timely Android OS updates, something that is after all the major reason Google keeps allowing more devices into the beta testing program.

Your favorite smartphone vendor hasn’t featured much in all these Android 10 stories. Sure, it has been claimed that One UI 2.0 beta based on Android 10 is already in the works, but knowing Samsung, the wait for the stable version could go all the way to late Q4 2019.

Galaxy S10 will get Android 10 update ahead of other Samsung devices

And even when Android 10 does arrive, only the likes of Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 will be considered first, with the rest of the eligible devices like Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 joining the party in 2020.

Some low-end devices in the Galaxy A series, for instance, may have to wait until Q3 2020 to receive Android 10, just like it’s happening right now with Samsung Galaxy J7 2018 with respect to Android Pie.

FYI, Samsung Galaxy J7 2018 has multiple names depending on where you buy it. For instance, Verizon Wireless has it as the Galaxy J7 V while Galaxy J7 Refine is the name of the same device on Sprint, Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile. On T-Mobile and AT&T, it’s called Samsung Galaxy J7 Star.

As of this writing, T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy J7 Star is receiving Android 9 Pie update, an OS that first rolled out more than a year ago. The update is arriving as version J737TUVU5BSG2 and weighs 1.1GB, which is typical for a file carrying so many changes and new features.

In addition to installing a new Android OS, the updated firmware also tags along a newer Android security patch for the month of July 2019. Sure, it’s not the latest version available, but with all that Android Pie brings, I bet not many will be bothered by this.

This is an OTA update, which means it will take time before all J7 Star units get the nod to download and install the Pie software. The fact that T-Mobile hasn’t updated the device’s software support page also says a lot, but it should be updated soon.

Android 10 would be the second OS upgrade for the J7 Star

While this might be the first Android OS update for Samsung Galaxy J7 Star users, theres no assurance that a second update to Android 10 will be made available for this device. But if it does, we will be here to bring you the good news.
