[Updated] Sprint Samsung Galaxy S9 VoLTE coming back on February 24 (alongside One UI 2.0 / Android 10 update?)

Android 10 is already out on many Samsung devices including the Samsung Galaxy S9 in a number of regions. However, one group of users have not seen the same. This is Sprint users of the Samsung Galaxy S9.

However, there’s still some hope because recent reports have alluded that this update might indeed roll out to the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 9 on Sprint sometime this month.

As is often the case with any major update of this caliber, the carrier, in this case, Sprint, is bound to include a bunch of its own tweaks and improvements in the update. The upcoming Android 10-based OneUI 2 update, therefore, should see a number of features.

Sprint has been delaying the rollout of its VoLTE (Voice over LTE) feature for the Galaxy S9 for a while now. You can read more on the status of VoLTE on the Sprint variant of the Galaxy S9 over here.

Sprint’s implementation of VoLTE is supposed to come as a replacement for the carrier’s Calling PLUS feature which is being decommissioned. Calling PLUS enabled calls to automatically switch between networks as needed to keep your conversation going. It combined WiFi calling with the ability to use data while in calls.

Sprint already replaced Calling PLUS on the LG G7 recently and according to reports, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is next in line.

Samsung Galaxy S9 users on Sprint are receiving communication from the carrier, informing them that on February 24 they will be receiving an update that may impact calling plus. Information on the official Calling Plus decommission page also says an update will replace Calling PLUS with VoLTE soon.

Both these updates, the one set to decommission Calling Plus and the Android 10 update have been scheduled for February 24th. It is therefore possible that the two are going to come in the same update package; Android 10-based OneUI 2.

It is also worth noting that Verizon has already pushed Android 10 for its Galaxy S9 while T-Mobile plans to roll out the same on February 23. More on that here. The international version has been out for a while now in many regions. You can install it manually using this link.
