Sprint Moto E5 Plus & E4 Plus September security updates arrive, Moto G6 Plus gets patched too

Verizon Wireless has been the busiest American carrier with Motorola software updates in the recent past. The Big Red rolled out the first update to the Moto E6 late last month alongside a new security patch for the Moto E5 Go edition.

A short while ago, the Moto E6 got updated to October security patches while the Moto E4 received the previous month’s patch. The Moto E5 Play, on the other hand, received the latest October patch and today, even more carrier-branded Moto E devices are receiving software updates.

If you own the Moto E5 Plus (XT1924) or Moto E4 Plus (XT1776) that was purchased through Sprint, the carrier is rolling out new September security updates to the duo. Not the latest patches by any means, but still way better than none at all.

The former’s update is arriving as software version OCPS27.91-32-15-6 and puts together security patches from August and September into a single OTA file.

If you have the older Moto E4 Plus, Sprint is sending out a software update that bumps the software version to NCRS26.58-44-25, tagging along September security updates. Like the Moto E5 Plus, the underlying OS remains unchanged, that is, Oreo for the former and Nougat for the latter.

For folks using the Moto G6 Plus from down in South America, reports coming from Argentina can confirm that the September security update is also rolling out to this handset.

The airborne update is arriving with software version PPWS29.116-11-11 and, of course, is still based on Android 9 Pie. The fact that Moto G devices receive quarterly security patches explains why this model is coming from July straight to September security patches.

The Moto G6 Plus isn’t sold in the U.S., but the Moto G6 and G6 Play are. These two, according to recent updates on their software support pages, are in line to receive October security patches, but the OTAs could arrive towards the end of this month or probably in November.
