Yesterday, users of LG V40 ThinQ on Verizon started getting the October Android Security update. And that isn’t the only group getting the patch. Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G & U.S. Galaxy A50, the Sprint Moto G6 Play & G7 Play, just to mention but a few.

All in all, many OEMs have had their devices updated to the October Android security patch.

Cut to now. November is off to a blazing start which means that OEMs have to scramble and get the October update out to their devices really soon. Today, it is Sprint that is rolling out the October update to two devices in their portfolio, the LG G7 ThinQ and the Galaxy A50.

It is important to note the Verizon variant of the device is already updated. The Sprint G7 ThinQ (G710PM) has the Software Update dated October 29 and carries a G710P18a. The changelog is pretty generic for a monthly Android security patch;

Even more impressive is that the US unlocked variant of the Galaxy A50 got the update at the beginning of October. However, the Sprint variant is now beginning to get the update.

The new security patch carries A505USQU2ASI6 as the build number and unlike the previous update that introduced new features, this one is also pretty tame and generic. Additionalli Real Time Text has also been enabled.

This update is seen by many as the precursor to Android 10 skinned with Samsung’s One UI 2.0.

For those using the Galaxy A50 in the U.S. – the unlocked variant – the October update has been available for weeks with software version A505U1UES2ASI5. That was for the model number SM-A505U1, the new update rolled out to all U.S. variants of the device.

We knew the carrier variants would take time to receive the OTA. Today, most of the A50s in the US now have the October security update.

The Galaxy A50 is part of the new Galaxy A-line of smartphones that were birthed to replace the mid-range J-line of smartphones. The new Galaxy A devices have done really well across the globe, solidifying Samsung’s stakes in the mid-range segment of the market.
