Voice over LTE, or just VoLTE, has been around for a while now. Sprint VoLTE was a little late to the party, only rolling it out sometime in 2018 with the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, and S8 Active. That has since grown to support a whole host of newer devices.

However, there have been some ‘growing pains’. Sprint has clearly been having trouble delivering proper VoLTE services to its customers. A quick scroll through its community forum and you’re bound to run into frustrated Galaxy S9 users having trouble with VoLTE.

The Sprint variant of the Galaxy S9 was scheduled to get an update that would fix VoLTE by January 20. Well, that never materialized. In a statement from Sprint’s Social Care, the update has officially been rolled back. There is also no word as to when this might be pushed out.

There is no word as to why this is the case. A similar case is playing out with the Sprint variant of the Galaxy Note 9. The Android 10 firmware for Note 9 have reportedly enabled VoLTE. However, Sprint hasn’t officially released out the update either.

This is a sorry state for the many Sprint Galaxy S9 owners who have to deal with poor quality on their rather expensive phones yet even older iPhones support VoLTE well.

But maybe all is not lost. There might be a way to fix this. We do not have confirmation that this actually works, but it should. See, Android 10 firmware is expected to fix the VoLTE issue. As such, if Sprint users opt for manually flashing this update, they might get VoLTE to work.

We know that it is possible to flash the Android 10 build on Sprint Galaxy S9. You can learn more about how to do that in this post. Also bear in mind that Sprint has not officially rolled this out. Could that be due to underlying bugs? We don’t know.
