Japanese phone maker Sony launched the flagship-grade Xperia XZ3 last year. The device features Snapdragon 845 processor, Android 9.0 Pie, and a 6.00-inch display with QHD+ resolution & an aspect ratio of 18:9, unlike Sony’s new flagship Xperia 1’s ultra-long 21:9 cinematic display.
Although Sony smartphones are not getting much traction in the smartphone market as compared to popular brands like OnePlus, Xiaomi & Realme, the OEM is continuously making efforts to enhance the experience of its existing users, as well buck-up the pace of firmware update releases.
During this week itself, the newly launched Sony Xperia 1 and 2018’s build Xperia XZ2 family (i.e. Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Premium and XZ2 Compact) received the latest August security updates. Following that, landed the same update on Xperia 10 and 10 Plus, just yesterday.
However, XZ2’s successor XZ3 users were left waiting. Without much delay, the Japanese OEM is now rolling out the August security update to Sony Xperia XZ3 as well.
A user on Twitter confirmed the August security patch on Sony Xperia XZ3. He posted a screenshot of the update notification, which clearly shows the latest update version 52.0.A.8.131 (same as that on XZ2), and date of arrival of the update.
Considering the limited number of reports, we routed to check if the local source code has been published at the official open-source code page. And yes it’s there, which conveys the update should now be circulating.
The official website has listed the open-source download file for Xperia XZ3 (H8416, H9436, & H9493), Xperia XZ2 Premium (H8116 & H8166), Xperia XZ2 Compact (H8324 & H8314) and Xperia XZ2 (H8266, H8216, H8276, & H8296); with software version 52.0.A.8.131, and size 550MB.
Even a YouTube user posted a video displaying their XZ3 unit running the August patch. However, another user commented on the same video stating their unit is still stuck on the June update. This clearly shows the August patch is once again a phased release and will reach slowly in all regions.
Check your device for the update right now. If the notification doesn’t show up, then we will suggest you to be patient, as updates often rollout in batches, and hence may take some time to hit your unit.
