Tizen 3.0 update has indeed proven to be troublesome for Samsung Gear S3 users. While the company is busy fixing the battery drainage issue triggered by the recent Tizen update, a different issue in now making way to limelight – an error message stating EAS requires a PIN to access email content keeps popping.
Well, the only relief is that the South Korean company has officially acknowledged the problem. The confirmation came in the form of a post from a Samsung moderator on the company’s official forum.
I’ll be sure to add that to the information I’m gathering and forward it along to get this fixed up that much faster
Curiously, the moderator also added that
Everyone keep in mind that this may take an evaluation and repair or even exchange to fix. If you’re here in the US feel free to reach out via phone: 1-800-726-7864. If you’re not in the US be sure to reach out to your regional support
This is a bit weird that fix for a software update-triggered issue may require you to send your device to the company. Not to mention that it’s also highly inconvenient for users.
To provide you some details on the matter, right after installing the recently pushed Tizen 3.0 update, multiple Gear S3 users – both Frontier and Classic – started complaining about a screen lock notification (which can be clearly seen in the featured image of this article) constantly flashing on their smart watches .
Affected users took to different help forums – including Samsung’s official help forum, Reddit, and XDA – to highlight the problem. Some say they have to re-enter the PIN again and again (at least thrice) to access their emails, and others say that even resetting the PIN doesn’t work for them.
Interestingly, the message displays even for those who don’t have any Exchange email account set up on phone, or any email app connected to the watch.
Basic troubleshooting steps like factory resetting or rebooting prevent the message from showing up only for some time, as it flashes again later.
While it’s good that the issue has been officially acknowledged, it’s annoying that your watch may need a repair or exchange to fix it, although some users say the process is fairly quick.
An OTA fix could have been a far better way out. Anyway, we are keeping a close watch on all developments related to the matter, and will update as and when they occur.
