Original story (published on September 09, 2020) follows:
Samsung’s skins on top of Android have grown tremendously over the past few generations. Today, Samsung makes one of the most refined Android experiences in the market today.
The latest edition of the same, One UI 2.5, officially debuted with the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series of devices. The skin has since been rolled out to the Galaxy S20 family of devices and you can check out our dedicated tracker for more coverage of the same.
There are a number of Samsung’s recent devices that are still eligible for an update to this version of One UI and you can check out if your device is in line for this update here.
Samsung’s Galaxy S9 was unveiled back in early 2018 and was the Korean giant’s flagship device of said year. The device remains a solid choice for people in the market for a capable device, even in 2020 and more so, bearing in mind the price-cuts it has seen since.
The S9 is still officially supported by Samsung and as such, it currently runs Samsung’s One UI 2.1 and is in line for an update to One UI 2.5.
Today, it is coming to light that an update to One UI 2.5 is rather imminent for the Galaxy S9 device. This, based on new reports of a test build of a major update for this device listed on CheckFirm.
A user-shared screenshot of CheckFirm on the Korean variant of the Galaxy S9 lists a major update with version number G960NKSU3FTI2. Considering that the device currently runs on firmware version number G960NKSU3ETH3, this is a pretty huge update. Seeing as Android 11 for this device is still a few months away, this could only be One UI 2.5 for the device.
We still don’t have official word from Samsung on the possible timelines for this update so we don’t know when to expect the official rollout, much less the rollout to other regional variants.
We shall continue to keep an eye on this story and update as and when we get more details. You might want to keep an eye on our One UI 2.5 tracker for when that update drops.
