New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on August 05, 2020) follows:
The issue of Android OS updates has been a major talking point among Samsung fans for years. While the likes of Google and OnePlus provide three years OS updates, Samsung stuck with two, even for premium devices like the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9+ that cost in the regions of $1,000.
All this while, the cheaper OnePlus 3/3T, OnePlus 5/5T, and OnePlus 6/6T are at the receiving end of three major Android OS updates. Yes, the OnePlus 6/6T are set to receive Android 11 update while the Galaxy Note 9 and S9 duo miss out.
This, however, changes today. At the launch event of the new kids on the block, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series, the Korean company has revealed that going forward, three OS updates will be pushed to the Galaxy Note 20 family of devices.
Since the phones run One UI 2.5 based on Android 10 out of the box, Note 20 buyers are guaranteed updates all the way to Android 13. Even better is that this is not limited to the Galaxy Note 20 lineup.
According to Android Authority, the new three-year Android OS policy also affects the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy Note 10 series and even the Galaxy S10 series. This is particularly a welcome idea for those on the S10 series given they expected OS updates to end with Android 11.
It remains to be seen if some devices in the Galaxy A and M series will get the nod. But even if none makes the cut, it still is a good thing to see Samsung finally listening to user requests and actually doing something about.
Although not mentioned, we also expect the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip family of devices to get three years of OS updates as well. If anything, this should also apply to the new Galaxy Tab S7 and probably its most recent predecessor, the Galaxy Tab S6.
Hopefully, Samsung clears the air soon or later. We will let you know if and when this happens.

Update 3 (September 24)
The South Korean giant launched the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) yesterday in an online event and it also confirmed that the device will get 3 major OS updates. This means the S20 FE will get two more major Android updates after the One UI 3.0 update based on Android 11.
