[Leaked for US models] Samsung Galaxy S10 June update disables ability to downgrade, brings QR code scanner

When it comes to monthly security updates, Samsung is determined to patch their current as well as few generations older flagships as fast as possible. As a matter of fact, they did include two of their mid ranger phones under the list of eligible devices to get periodic security patches in the interval of a month or so.

While such a practice indeed looks good on paper, reality is something different. Carrier branded phones tend to receive delayed OTA updates compared to the unlocked variants.

The month of June is following the same trend, as the June security update was first started to appear on China/Hong Kong edition of Samsung Galaxy S10, which also brought the long-anticipated camera night mode for the Snapdragon powered variant of the flagship.

See the fallacy? The US Galaxy S10 units are also based on Snapdragon 855 platform, but there is no sign of a similar update so far. On the other hand, global Exynos variants are now receiving the June update in the form of ASF3 build.

The translated version of the changelog is as follows:

· Wi-Fi connectivity and stability have been improved.

· The stability of Camera has been improved

· Bluetooth connectivity and stability has been improved

· The security of your device has been improved.

The OTA weighs about 253 MB, which seems a rather small increment from the previous ASE6/ASE7 build with May security patches. For an update carrying only new security patches with minor improvements, the size is justified though.

FYI, you *can’t* rollback to a previous build once you install this update. Samsung updated the bootloader (v2 instead of regular v1), which can be seen from the version number (G975FXXU1ASE7 => G975FXXU2ASF3). The changelog vaguely mention the situation as well.

Once the update is done, you will not be able to return to the old version of the software because of the updates of the security policy

On the other hand, the native QR code scanning feature is now available under camera option. Guess you can safely get rid of the QR code reader app you are using till now.

As always, the OTA got live initially in Switzerland. However, the Swiss CSC (AUT) is part of global (OXM) firmware, thus users having international Exynos models of Galaxy S10 can safely flash the build.

The raw firmware is now available on Samsung update servers as well, so interested S10 owners can skip the waiting queue and download the firmware using Frija or similar tools. The decrypted firmware can be flashed by ODIN.
