[Rolling out widely] Samsung Galaxy S10 August security update gets a new build with updated kernel & modem

Samsung pushed August 2019 security patches for their current and legacy Galaxy S lineup during the first few weeks of this month. However, Galaxy S8/S8+ users are facing some peculier issues (such as extreme lag, app freeze, abnormal temperature) after installing the newest OTA.

The Korean OEM did a similar mishap with Galaxy S10 lineup in May. They silently pulled back the glitchy build and rolled out a quick hotfix to address the bugs.

While we are not sure whether Galaxy S8/S8+ will get the same treatment or not, Samsung apparently uploaded a new build on top of the same August patch set for Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+. Before you are getting curious, there is no clue about a wider rollout yet.

Well, the phenomenon is not unusual. Samsung engineers often produce region specific builds with slightly different identifier. In this case, the new software version (with build ID ASH6) was compiled on August 22. On the other hand, the older build (ASH1) came out of the oven on August 13.

That’s not the end! The ASH6 build, which is currently available on Australia, does contain a newer kernel as well as updated modem/baseband firmware. Pretty significant improvements if you ask me.

Some guys over XDA already flashed the update manually on their Galaxy S10+ and reported noticeable performance improvements. However, I like to mark them as placebo until there are significant number of similar reports.

Using ASH1 my phone tends to get got most of the time.. With ASH6 it seems to be cooler.. And free ram is more.. Never hit 4.2 gb free ram after start up… And it’s more fluid during navigation the screen…

If you are interested to give this build a try on your Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+, fire up Frija and download the firmware binary using the country code ‘XSA’ (for Australia). Samsung might also start a new software revision for global Galaxy S10 from next month, as they did with the Sprint branded variant.
