[Second build] Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series first update brings camera improvements

Samsung was in New York City earlier this month to unveil the next big thing – the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Unlike in the recent past and perhaps reminiscent of the good old Galaxy Note 4 days, this year’s Note 10 is accompanied by a second variant dubbed Galaxy Note 10+.

Samsung has its own reasons for going down this route. Whether it’s a me-too thing or just simply wanting to give buyers more freedom of choice is another topic of the day, but we all agree that whichever variant you end up with, you’ll be getting one of the best phones in 2019.

The Note 10 duo packs some punch, but of course, the entry-level model skimps on a few specs and features to match the lower asking price of just $950 compared to the $1100 base price of the Note 10+. For instance, it doesn’t have a microSD card slot and the RAM is limited to 8GB.

Also, the standard Galaxy Note 10 has a smaller battery capacity owing to its relatively smaller screen size of just 6.3 inches. Although it might not matter to some, the Note 10+ also gets superior 45W fast battery charging compared to the 25W available on the Note 10.

Honestly, most people can live with the so-called weaker Note 10 even with the few missing premium features. But whether they can live with the tangible difference between the two variant’s photography specs is another story.

Where the standard Samsung Galaxy Note 10 has a triple-lens camera on the back, the Note 10+ gets a fourth 3D ToF lens that changes the whole perspective of the game. But as noted earlier, the difference might not be relevant to some people out there.

Sticking with Note 10 cameras, the company is already pushing a new software update to the devices out there with model numbers SM-N970F and SM-N975F. The changelog is the same in both cases.

The Note 10 is receiving firmware version N970FXXU1ASH5 while the Note 10+ is on firmware version N975FXXU1ASH5.

The release notes were published yesterday and apparently, some units are already receiving the OTA update as of this writing. The update weighs 307.64MB and installs quite a number of improvements as listed below.

· The performance of Fingerprint recognition has been improved
· The performance of Touch screen has been improved
· The stability of Camera has been improved.
· Camera picture quality has been improved.
· The security of your device has been improved.

The camera has been improved and so has the performance of the in-display fingerprint scanner. The update also bumps the security patch level to the latest version available – August 2019. If anything, this update should be pushed to the Note 10 duo once they start selling officially.

Not long ago, we learned that the Galaxy Note 10 lets users remember parking locations via photos using Bixby and that Samsung could port the new DeX features to older phones that support for the desktop environment. It is also possible for Note 10 owners to use the Link to Windows feature from their device.
