New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on February 10, 2020) follows:
Samsung’s Galaxy A90 5G is a pretty special device for a variety of reasons. As you might be aware, 5G, the next generation in mobile connectivity is just starting to take off. Devices that support 5G are few at the moment.
The Galaxy A90 is the only non-flagship device to support this new tech. This means that it is one of the ‘affordable’ 5G-ready devices in the market today-kinda.
Samsung took a slightly different approach to roll updates to this device that sits at the helm of Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy A-line of phones.
While many other Samsung devices often bag monthly security patch updates, Samsung chose to push out updates to the Galaxy A90 quarterly. This means that this device only gets a security patch once every 3 months.
Today, Galaxy A90 5G users have something to smile about. Samsung has just started rolling out Android 10-powered OneUI 2 to this device, starting with Korean variants.
It is very important to note that this initial rollout is for the SM-A908N Korean model. At the time of writing, there is still no word about the SM-A908B Global variant or even the SM-A9080 Chinese model.
However, if history is anything to go by, the rollout to these other models should follow really soon.
The Galaxy A90 5G was released back in September 2019, running Android 9. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with a Snapdragon x50 5G modem.
It comes in two storage options, one with 6GB and 8GB of RAM with 128GB internal storage. There’s also a triple-camera system at the back.
Update (February 11)
Users have began getting the OTA updates. The update is based on the February 1 2020 security patch level and weighs in at almost 2GB.
