Samsung has never been the go-to smartphone vendor when it comes to rolling out timely software updates. The Korean company has built a poor reputation in this field and if major Android OS updates are anything to go by, more so the latest Android 10, things are still far from changing.
By virtue of being the leader in the smartphone industry, Samsung ought to have enrolled at least one device in Android Q beta program. Heck, even the likes of Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and the little-known Realme and Tecno Mobile had a device taking part in the program, but not Samsung.
Sure, the company is said to have already started works on One UI 2.0 based on Android 10, but none of this has been publicly confirmed by Samsung. The best we’ve had are leaks of what the company is working on, which I hate to admit are still hints that something is cooking.
While Samsung’s story with Android OS updates might not be music to your ears, the company is arguably doing quite the opposite when it comes to Android security updates. Samsung is one of the few vendors that publish a monthly Android security bulletin for its devices.
The latest to be published is August 2019. According to Samsung, the August update addresses 17 vulnerabilities found in One UI whereas Google says this update addresses 7 critical vulnerabilities in the core Android OS and plenty of other high-risk and moderate-risk vulnerabilities.
Samsung has already pushed the August update to several handsets that include the Galaxy S10, Galaxy M40 & Galaxy J6, Galaxy S8, and even the new kids on the block, the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+, among others.
Next in line is the 2018 Samsung Galaxy A8 with model number SM-A530F. The device is receiving the August security patch as version A530FXXU7CSH4 and weighs 326.18MB, which is pretty heavy for a mere security update.
Samsung Galaxy A8 August update is not just limited to the Netherlands. However, the update is arriving with different software versions in some other markets. For instance, this same update is rolling out in other markets as any of versions A530FXXS7CSH1, A530FXXS7CSH7, and A530FXXS7CSH8.
Also receiving a new Android security update is Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus. Unlike Samsung Galaxy A8 2018, though, the J4 Plus update brings July security patch. The software version is J415FXXU4BSH3 and weighs 379.58MB.
Although the changelog only mentions the updated security patch, the size of the update suggests there’s more than just the typical security update. Do feel us in with the new stuff you find in the latest update in your comments at the end of this post.
