Samsung began their journey in the phone business with their SH-100 back in 1988. Although Motorola had built the first mobile phone ever in the history, Samsung did make their own contributions in the arena.
In 2008, the first Android smartphone went live (HTC Dream). It took a year for Samsung to adapt to the new platform. That’s how GT-I7500 Galaxy came into existence. Irrespective of not being the pioneer, Samsung still leads the market way ahead of those who initiated the business.
If you take the global marketshare, you can find Samsung on the top. Even when their mid-range devices were not doing good, the OEM defied other manufacturers. Now that they have some decent budget and mid-range phones, we can’t expect the dominance to go down.
However, Samsung doesn’t reside at the first place in terms of firmware updates. There are other vendors who releases OTAs before the South Korean tech giant. Take Google, Essential, Nokia, and OnePlus for examples.
Nonetheless, the brand does release security patches in time (at least to a small percent of models). October update started hitting Galaxy J6 Plus units yesterday. The same surfaced on many A50s just a day before.
Now, the table has turned in the favour of A8+ and A80. When it comes to the former, you can find the details on the official online document. Apart from bumping up the patch to October, it fixes an auto-rotate error.
As for A80’s OTA, the official record is yet to get updated. Still, we could pull out a few details from a third-party website. The changelog is unavailable, though. You can expect an update to this story once we get our hands on it.
What if you didn’t get the notification? Go to Settings > About device > Software update > Update now. In case you see nothing there, just wait for your turn. As we always say, over the air overhauls go out in clusters. You will have to wait for your turn.
