Resumed Xiaomi Mi A2 / A2 Lite March update fixes LTE issues

The Nexus lineup doesn’t exist anymore, as Google now targets the premium class market segment with their Pixel series of phones. The Pixels are indeed helpful for the Mountain View giant to cater a larger customer base.

However, they are not the true successor to the Nexus phones. Don’t get me wrong, the Pixel series inherited a lot of things from their older siblings. But the actual descendents of the Nexus program are the Android One phones.

The Android One program evolved significantly since its introduction in 2014. Initially Google anchored the whole software development part, while the OEMs manufactured the hardware and sold them.

In the current generation, however, OEMs have significant authority in hand. The practice has somehow started to malign the true glory of the Android One program – it is neither free from bloatware nor capable of delivering faster updates.

In 2018, Xiaomi released two Android One phone: Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. The Chinese OEM prefers to rebrand their existing phones than designing them from scratch, and the A2 series is not an exception.

Both of the phones started their journey with Android Oreo out of box. Xiaomi provided Android 9 Pie OTA update to them at the end of 2018.

Nevertheless, the transition to Pie was not hassle free for most of the users. In case of Mi A2, a subsequent update in January reportedly bricked the phones in a number of occasions.

The Chinese OEM pulled back the faulty update, and rolled out a new one later. The February update was released in waves, thus some users did not receive it at all.

By the second week of this month, the phones started to get the March update. The internal version number of the updated builds was V10.0.5.0.PDIMIXM.

Once more, Xiaomi rolled out a buggy update. Several Mi A2 users reported about LTE connection issues after updating to the V10.0.5.0 build.

Once again, Xiaomi had to pause the update roll out. The faulty builds were taken down for both Mi A2 and A2 Lite.

The community assumed that Xiaomi will directly jump to April security patch level with a new month in next month. However, they decided to provide a second set of March updates for the A2 duos.

According to user reports, the version number of the new build is V10.0.7.0.PDLMIXM. Interestingly, the OEM entirely skipped the V10.0.6.0 build.

The missing 4G/LTE is finally solved with this build.

The new OTA allegedly solved the slow WiFi speed issue when Bluetooth is enabled for some users. We guess they bundled a new firmware of the Wi-Fi/BT combo module.

Just updated, the slow wifi with Bluetooth enabled for me is solved, still can’t connect to aes protected wifi (no problem with Oreo), tomorrow I’ll check if disconnecting from Bluetooth car speaker is solved and battery life too.
