New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on February 28, 2020) follows:
Earlier this month we documented various complaints from people experiencing Redmi Note 8 Google Assistant issues where their units are unable to respond to the “OK Google” or “Hey Google” hotword.
The fact that Google Assistant comes pre-installed on Android phones yet Redmi Note 8 users cannot enjoy the goodies of the digital assistant is pretty annoying, to be honest.
But what’s even more frustrating is where a basic function of any modern-day Android smartphone is broken yet no one is ready to take the blame. This has been the case for quite some time with respect to the Redmi Note 8 Google Assistant issues, but not anymore.
As seen above, MIUI support (via Mi forums) has revealed that Xiaomi is aware of this issue, but he doesn’t mention when a fix can be expected. Still, it’s good that the company is aware of the issue, so rest assured that an official fix will be available at some point. Meanwhile, try this workaround.
Buggy Redmi Note 8 MIUI 11.0.3.0 update pulled
Some thought they had received an OTA update to address the Redmi Note 8 OK/Hey Google issues. The update arrived a couple of days ago as MIUI 11.0.3.0, tagging along January security patches and a bunch of bug fixes.
Below is the changelog of the said MIUI 11.0.3.0 update, both for the Indian and Indonesian variants.
System
– Updated Android Security Patch to January 2020. Increased system security.
Status bar, Notification shade
– Fix: Couldn’t open notification settings in the Notification shade in Second space

But it seems the update did more harm than good to the Redmi Note 8.

And now according to the latest reports, the update has disappeared. But why? Apparently, MIUI support says the update has been pulled due to bugs in the firmware. The said bugs haven’t been highlighted, but it should be something grave to warrant pulling back the rollout.
We will let you know when Xiaomi resumes rolling out the patched-up version, probably with a newer February security patch. Stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
