Smartphone players like Xiaomi have revolutionized the budget phone segment. With their bang for the buck devices, the OEM made it look as if other manufacturers were looting the customers. Starting with Mi 1, the company has been users’ favorite.
Not to miss the new kid on the block Realme, who followed the path of Xiaomi. The Oppo spin-off wanted to shatter the existing monopoly and give a neck-to-neck competition to the Beijing-based OEM. The rising popularity of Realme phones proves they somewhat succeeded in their mission.
As for Xiaomi, they just can’t give up. They don’t want to just relish the sweet memories of the past Redmi Note devices breaking the sales record. In order to capture the market once again, the company has fastened their seat belt for the launch of the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro.
If you regularly follow tech news, you might have already seen quite a few leaks pertaining to the series. There surfaced a rumour about the chipset being Helio G90T. Announced just last month, the processor is MediaTek’s rival to Snapdragon 730G.
While until now there wasn’t an official word, as of today, the chipmaker has confirmed not only the launch date, but also their association with the upcoming Redmi Note lineup. FYI, Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, posted on Weibo that the phones will go official on August 29.
And chances are that MediaTek G90 is going to be their pick for Redmi Note 8 and G90T for Redmi Note 8 Pro. It’s worth noting that Xiaomi has officially confirmed the devices will feature a quad camera setup with a 64MP primary sensor. (They had to inevitably choose four cameras on the back given Realme 5 series’ intrusion).
And MediaTek G90/G90T, well they’re compatible with the 64MP camera sensor. The image posted by Lei Jun clearly shows three vertical sensors along with one on the side. On the top of the third sensor is an LED flashlight. How the frontside looks like is still a mystery though.
The 3C certification of the model hints at the availability of 18W fast charging. We expect them to stick to the water drop notch on the top of the display. Though the customers are craving for an in-display fingerprint scanner, we don’t think it’s going to happen. Also, the rear-mounted scanner is clearly visible in the images.
Taking the tradition of Xiaomi into consideration, the launch event will happen first in China. So we’ll have to wait at least a few days after August 29 for the global release.
