When it comes to software updates, Xiaomi/Redmi usually receives a polarized response from the Android community. The Chinese OEM rolls out frequent OTA updates for their phones (and tablets) running MIUI, but they don’t maintain a fixed schedule for monthly security patches.

Redmi Note 7 Pro: Still running April 2019 security patch

Although Redmi operates as an independent entity nowadays, the software division is unified. The Redmi Note series is the most popular lineup in their portfolio, but the current gen Redmi Note 7 series is plagued with various issues.

Unlike the regular and ‘S’ models, the Pro variant of Redmi Note 7 is only available in China and India. Xiaomi rolled out MIUI 10.3.5.0 update for the phone back in May, which brought April security patch and AI camera modes along with various fixes.

A subsequent update (MIUI 10.3.7.0) was released for a small group of people. Now another update with the version number 10.3.9.0 is reportedly rolling out for a larger volume of Indian users. However, the security patch level remains unchanged.

The incremental OTA (presumably from MIUI 10.3.5.0) weighs about 505 MB, which is too large to deliver ‘optimizations’ and ‘stability improvements’. As a matter of fact, the update allegedly bundles the Mi Credit app.

Mi Credit service on the app is available in partnership with financial loan providers as an instant personal loan platform for young professionals in need. With Mi Credit, users can get loans from which can be initiated in less than 10 minutes with a simple KYC verification, followed by e-sign, rendering the whole process fast, secure & paperless, and providing the ease of repayment right from the app at a minimal rate of interest.

On the other hand, the stock camera app is lagging horribly after the update as per the users who installed it. Interestingly, the same symptom was noticed after the short-lived 10.3.7.0 update.
