New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on March 31, 2020) follows:
Not too long ago, we saw reports that the Chinese variant of the Redmi Note 7 Pro was getting and Android 10 update. The update to Android 10, turned out to be one of the advanced Beta releases that Xiaomi is known for; builds that are as good as official releases.
Since then, and with the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic that is crippling a lot of things, we haven’t heard much else in terms of timelines or even broader roll out of the stable build for the said region.
Users of the international version of the Redmi Note 7 Pro are a frustrated lot. This is because there has been no word on when the device is likely to get updated to Android 10. This, even at a time when Android 11 development is going into high gear with a number of Developer previews already out.
The frustration is pouring out even in online forums for these users. Thanks to one of these frustrated users, we have an answer to one of the questions that have been bugging Redmi Note 7 Pro users.
Dear user,
No ETA, what I can say is that (Android 10) is under development. Kindly stay tuned on mi global community for further info.
Thanks
So turns out that Android 10 is being developed for the International Redmi Note 7 Pro. Of course, we knew the update was coming to this device after the Chinese variant started getting the Beta updates.
As it stands, the Redmi Note 7 Pro runs on Android 9 Pie with the February 2020 Android security patch update. We also saw a listing of one Redmi Note 7 Pro running Android 10 surface on Geekbench a while back, and another one with the same device running Android 11.
The non-Pro variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is also facing the same uncertainty. Xiaomi says that Redmi Note 7 Android 10 update is under development. Like the Redmi Note 7 Pro, however, there is no ETA. More on that here.
Update 1 (August 11)
Xiaomi has now begun rolling out the stable Android 10 update for the Redmi Note 7 Pro in India. This new update comes with the software version 11.0.2.0.QFHINXM and is still based on MIUI 11 rather than MIUI 12. See the full story here.
