Original story (from Sept 12) follows:
There was a time when phone makers shipped flagships without a minuscule crypto certificate (known as Widevine) to save the time related to certification tasks. As a result, those phones were unable to play popular online streams in HD/FHD. Poco F1 users, you should know what I’m talking about.
Apparently the crypto validation and internal whitelisting play a big role in this domain. We stumbled upon truckload of reports where Honor View 20 users were not able to watch Netflix or Amazon Prime in HD on their phones, despite having required certifications out of the box.
Similar incidents are happening with Asus ZenFone 6 (sold as Asus 6Z in India) owners as well. Perhaps it has something to with regional firmware or such, and the Taiwanese OEM is trying hard to resolve the matter with utmost priority.
Welcome the newest candidate in this wreckfest club: Redmi K20 Pro, or at least the Indian variant of it. The next generation ‘Flagship Killer’ does have Widevine L1 certificate preinstalled, but it has a strange incompatibility problem with a particular provider.
Thing is, Amazon Prime subscribers are reportedly facing this glitch where they can’t stream HD contents using their Redmi K20 Pro. Quick fact check, Netflix works without any hiccup on the same phone.
Hi team, Can you add Full HD support for your content in Redmi K20 Pro? It has widevine L1 certification. I can watch in HD in Netflix but not in Prime Video!!

@manukumarjain Sir when will we able to watch HD streaming contents on Amazon prime videos on Redmi K20 Pro evendoh it’s has Widewine L1 certification, Netflix and PUBG has the certification of HDR content why it’s not Amazon prime Video? #k20pro

Amazon Prime Video does have a reputation of being pretty much straight forward to mark devices as compatible if necessary certificates are there (as we saw in the case of Poco F1). Is the root cause hiding beneath a faulty software component in MIUI itself?
While social media platforms as well as Xiaomi’s own forum are getting overflown with such reports, we can’t find any official statement from the Chinese phone maker in this regard.

Update 1 (Oct 04)
Mi India support has confirmed that Redmi K20 Pro Amazon Prime HD support will be coming soon via a software update. Complete story here.
