Redmi 7, Redmi S2/Y2 & Redmi Note 8 grab December security update (Download links inside)

Xiaomi is rolling out the December security patch update to a number of its devices. This comes at a time when other OEMs are already pushing out the January 2020 update to their devices.

These devices range anywhere from the budget/entry-level to the more powerful and relatively mid-range devices in Xiaomi’s catalog.

The first phone in the list is the Xiaomi Redmi S2. Also sold as Redmi Y2 in India, it was announced back in Q2 2018. Featuring a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display, this device is powered by Snapdragon 625 chipset.

The latest update bumps up the security patch level of this phone from October to December 2019. The new build (V11.0.3.0.PEFMIXM) also packs subtle optimizations as highlighted in the changelog below.

This update should soon be available for the Redmi S2/Y2 devices as an OTA update. However, if you want to manually install it for yourself, below is a download link to the update.

The non-Pro version of the Redmi Note 8 is also getting a similar treatment. This device was first announced in Q3 2019. It features a 6.3-inch IPS LCD display and is powered by the Snapdragon 665 chipset. It also has a 4,000 mAh battery to keep things running.

As is the case with the S2/Y2 update, this is also an OTA update. It is being rolled out in phases and as such, might take a few weeks to hit your device. However, you can download the zip below and install it.

The other device that is getting updated to the December Android patch is the Redmi 7. This device was first announced back in March 2019 and it features a 6.26-inch IPS LCD display and is powered by the Snapdragon 632 chipset. It also has a 4,000 mAh battery cell and starts at 64 GB storage.

The update to this device brings a number of new fixes and optimizations on top of the new security patch level. Below is the changelog.
