Realme forays into mobile payment sector by releasing yet another competitor for Xiaomi

You don’t have to spend a fortune to get your hands on a decent smartphone today, thanks to the Chinese OEMs that brought down the pricing. Speaking of value for money, it’s literally a crime not to mention Xiaomi devices.

With a new customer-friendly pricing strategy, the Beijing-based manufacturer adorned the pole position in the budget arena for years. Then came Realme, an Oppo spinoff, with an oath to defy the dominance of Xiaomi (Redmi to be specific) by following the same trend.

With multiple smartphone releases in a single month, they increased the number of choices for a typical buyer. In fact, their products even compete against each other to find a spot in the cart. So, mission accomplished! They could adversely affect the sales numbers of Xiaomi.

You might know, with K20 Pro, Redmi entered the mid-range flagship department. And, Realme jumped on the bandwagon by releasing X2 Pro. Do you think the neck-to-neck competition happens only in launching phones? Not at all!

Let me bring your attention to the beginning of this year when Mi Pay went live. As the name indicates, it is a mobile payment application from Xiaomi that helps the users with UPI, debit card, credit card, and internet banking transactions.

Guess what! Realme is all set to challenge Xiaomi in the mobile payment sector as well. We could spot a release note of Realme Pay app on the Chinese website. That means, the service has gone live in China and we have no clue when it will come to other countries.

The website gives an indication towards the presence of NFC based payment. In case you happen to be in China, you can use the service after adding your UnionPay card (Guangfa and SPD banks only). Then, making a transaction is as easy as flashing the device over a sensor or scanning a QR code.

You can’t use the app on every Realme phones. Right now, Realme X2 and X2 Pro are the only supported smartphones. Obviously, the list will include more handsets and banks in the near future. Stay tuned to this story to know when it happens.
