Realme has already given out its official Android 10 roadmap. We know the first devices to receive the stable version will do so in Q1 2020, namely the Realme 3 Pro, Realme 5 Pro, Realme X, and Realme XT.

The company has also hinted that all Realme phones will eventually receive an update to Android 10. But before the stable ColorOS 7 update arrives, Realme is expected to run a beta program for several weeks to test the OS and iron out any issues before rolling it out to the public.

Parent company Oppo has already confirmed that ColorOS 7 will be released on November 20. Realme, on the other hand, has announced a beta testing program that is still mysterious, but its likely meant to bring Android 10 beta to several Realme phones.

Ahead of this exercise, Realme (China) has come out to respond to some of the concerns users have raised so far regarding ColorOS 7, including some highlights on the features to expect, the release date of the stable version, and even the bug fixes being lined up.

ColorOS 7 release date

For those still doubting, the ColorOS 7 update will also bring Android 10 to your Realme phone. To reiterate its earlier stance, Realme says Android 10 will first arrive on the Realme X Lite, Realme X, and Realme Q in Q1 2020 and later on Realme X2 and Realme X2 Pro in Q2 2020.

In India, the Realme X Lite goes by the name Realme 3 Pro while Realme Q is the same device you know as Realme 5 Pro. As for the Realme X2, it’s known as Realme XT in India.

Dark mode issues with third-party apps

Unlike other vendors that are bringing dark mode to their devices as part of Android 10, Realme is rolling out this feature in a separate update. So far, several devices already got it and more should receive it this month.

However, there are some issues with third-party app compatibility, where some apps still don’t show up in dark mode despite the support for system-wide dark mode. In other cases, the dark mode experience isn’t what users expect.

While Realme promises to keep optimizing the dark mode compatibility with third-party apps, it also suggests disabling dark mode of third-party apps via Settings > Dark mode > Third-party application dark color.

In cases where the third-party app in question has its own dark mode, Realme says you might want to disable it to avoid any conflicts that may be causing the feature not work properly.

ColorOS 7 feature suggestions

Realme often takes opinions from users regarding what kind of features they would love added to the user experience. The company has responded to some of these feature requests as highlighted below:

  1. Intelligent lighting function – Realme users want a feature that will automatically detect the time of the day and adjust the display brightness to save battery. Well, apparently, this feature is under development and it will be released in a future OTA update.
  2. Dark mode shortcut in the notification bar – Yes, Realme says you will soon get this option via an OTA update.
  3. Support for 90Hz games on Realme X2 Pro – Besides Peace Elite, Realme says more games will be optimized to play nicely with the X2 Pro’s 90Hz display refresh rate.
  4. Desktop double-click information screen – This feature, alongside the option to restore the default by modifying the developer mode part of the function, alarm time custom nap time, ability to apply open animation to round sorners, have all been confirmed to be part of the upcoming ColorOS 7 update.
  5. Several other feature requests have been picked up, but they are still under review, among them adding a shortcut for long-time bright screen in the notification bar, File Manager Send File shortcut or Folder shortcut to Desktop, and separate adjustment of ringtone and notification sound volume.
  6. Realme has also highlighted some of the bugs that have been addressed, including the non-responsive NetEase cloud music drop notification bar player and delayed WeChat notifications.

Even though the above details are from Realme China, we do expect that most, if not all of the mentioned feature suggestions and even the ColorOS 7 update availability will also hold for India and other markets.
